Smithfield Volunteer Fire Company Tanker 10

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Volunteers of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department for regularly attending our Township meetings over the past year. They started attending the meetings due to a lack of donations received through the annual mail in fund drive from our township residence. To avoid adopting the “Fire Tax” that many townships in our area have adopted, the Board of Supervisors made a donation to the Fire Company from the General Fund, on behalf of the residence of Juniata Township. The volunteers came to the meetings and listened to our concerns and needs regarding fire service for our most remote and rural residence. At the start of the June 9th meeting they arrived in a newly refurbished Tanker 10. Our donation certainly wasn’t enough to cover the cost of the Tanker, but to show their appreciation they added “Juniata Twp” above the cab doors. The tanker was already put into service for a remote powerline brush fire off Snyders Run Road. We appreciate all the volunteers of the fire company and the time they dedicate to fund raising for our community. Please consider supporting the fire company in anyway you can. If you would like to see the tanker in person, SVFD will be hosting the 2026 Huntingdon County Fireman’s Convention June 21st – 27th on the grounds of the Smithfield Fire Hall.

Current/Ongoing/Future Project Updates:
HB 1424 has passed to the PA Senate Committee and it’s “Not good for small municipalities”.
If passed into law by the PA Legislature, HB 1424 will be a threat to the financial stability of small municipalities like Juniata, Penn, Clay and others that depend on an Amusement Tax Ordinance to raise funds that maintain and improve their infrastructure. (Go to the “For the Future” tab of this web site to learn about the impact the passage of HB 1424 will have on our collection of the Amusement Tax. See also the letter sent to PA Senator Judy Ward and the 14 members of the Senate Committee who will move HB 1424 to a Senate vote.
